Don’t Let Social Media Diminish Your Value

By Lisa Lauture

Social media has opened up a world of information that I was not privy to, growing up.  I’m sure I’m dating myself when I say that the most computer access I had as a kid was in school.  When we were granted computer privileges, we had the choice between Oregon Trail and Odell Lake.  Our primary source of influence were the 5 or 6 channels we had on tv.  And when cable became popular, I could almost guarantee that the guest pastor was going to preach about what he “heard” we were watching on HELLIVISION… Anyway, I digress…

Fast forward to now... the level of influence that we experience just by picking up our phone is astounding.  And that leaves the door wide open for inspiration and confusion.  If you've got a question or a problem, I am almost confident you can find a post about it. Any and everything you do and don't want to know can be found on TikTok or Youtube.

But the reality is, it’s all production.  Skin care products and morning routines... how to grow in this area and that area, and what I eat in a days. It's advertising. Some of us buy green smoothies, some of us buy coffee.  Neither of these are requirements to make you amazing.  You are amazing period! Mkay! So you have to sift through the goulash of ideas and take what works for you and leave the rest on the table.

Neither of these are requirements to make you amazing. You are amazing period! Mkay!

Say it with me, “THAT DON’T WORK FOR ME AND THAT IS OKAY.”  You have to give yourself grace to know that you will not measure up to the expectations you see on social media.  Truth be told, many of them don’t even measure up to their own social media expectations.  Listen, one 60 second video, created one time, but played over and over again, does not make it a routine.  Just know that we are here to share ideas to encourage and inspire.  That's all, That's it! Don’t use them as a measuring stick to beat yourself down.

Ask yourself this question the next time you're online and feel a bit behind or lacking, "Is this suggestion really for me?" If you're interested, try it. If you like it, keep doing it. If it's not for you, that's okay, TOSS IT! What you see on your timeline are suggestions. While they may work wonders for some, they don't apply to everyone. Success for someone else may not be true success for your life. Understanding your individuality and what works for you is the best way to move forward in peace and joy. You are valuable. You are deserving. You are enough.
